I can play files from the harddrive and the sounds comes through fine. Its when I try to get sound from say youtube or anythign else from the web that no sound comes through the speakers.

I'd start digging out the plugins you're using; for example YouTube uses flashplayer plugin, so which version are you running -- the latest stable for Linux is version 7 I think and the latest beta is version 9 (there is no version 8 for Linux). Have you tried many sites which use flash+sound (for example), and many versions of these (created with version 7 vs. version 9), and have you got plugins for all the media types you're trying to use?

Of course I'm not a Firefox expert but I could think it's not the browser that's trying to put the sound out, but the plugin(s).

Oh, and have you already made sure that no thing is blocking the sound, i.e. that only certain program on your system is able to play sounds ("keeps the channel jammed")?

Thanks b0uncer. I didn't read the wiki properly. There are instructions there if flashplayer plugin doesnt produce sound.
