having problems with ubuntu 9.04, error terminated with status 2
Hello,
I downloaded the ubuntu 9.04 Live CD, checked the MD5 and it was OK, burned it to the CD, but after I select the option to try it with no change to my computer it will give this error after trying to load. Code:
init: rc-default main process [3041] terminated with status 2 Here are the specs of the computer. Intel Pentium 4 processor 3.06GHz 1GB RAM Graphics card, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500, 256MB of memory. |

To verify the md5sums of the CD, boot up the CD and choose the option "check disc for defects". Let that run and see if the disc passes. If it does not, then burn the CD again at the slowest possible speed. And welcome to the LQ forums! |
Hello
I tested the CD with that option and it came back good. Quote:

Try booting the live CD from "safe graphics mode". I think there is an option for safe graphics mode in the main window when you boot the live CD.
If that does not work, boot up the live CD again and hit F6 to enter additional boot options. Then type acpi=off and hit enter to boot Ubuntu. Is this a desktop or laptop? Do you know the motherboard chipset that your computer uses? If not, post the manufacturer and model number here. |

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Did you download 32 bit or 64 bit Ubuntu? If you are using 64 bit Ubuntu then try 32 bit.
All I can suggest is to try the Ubuntu 32 bit alternate install CD. This is a text based install CD. You can only install Ubuntu from the alternate CD. You can not run it as a live CD. If you just want to try out linux from a live CD perhaps you could try Knoppix or some other distro. This person had trouble with Ubuntu on your computer also, but he reports it has an AMD CPU.: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...t=pavilion+061 This person apparently had trouble as well. His dxdiag also reports hp 061: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...t=pavilion+061 Try running the free version of everest from Windows. This will report in detail exactly what hardware is in your computer including the motherboard chipset. http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?lang=en |
