Has anyone run media server on ubuntu server?
 

1. I am new to Ubuntu
2. I installed Ubuntu Server - took me less than 10 minutes which was awesome.
3. I want to install an opensource version of software for a media server. I saw VideoLan, but want to know if anyone knows something which is easier to install and use.

I am trying to load my movie on the server and view it on my Ubuntu desktop, one chapter at a time being sent from server to desktop.

Media server meaning a PVR or something like that?

I am told that Myth is a good Linux PVR app, though I have never used it myself.

I am using MythTV on my server as a media backend, with three DVB cards.

Works great. Records all my family's TV, listen to mp3's, view photo's etc etc.

Now if only i could fix the problem with xebian and my X.box ...................
