Your GRUB config file will be in /boot/grub in linux under the name menu.lst . grub.conf is a shortcut to that file.

To boot XP as default just alter the number in the "default" statement of /boot/grub/menu.lst. If you want to boot the ith choice use i-1 in the default starement as Grub counts from 0.
