I dunno what happened. I'm using Dapper Drake and I used to be able to see almost all the screensavers. Now the screen just goes blank. Can't see them in the preview window either. HELP!
Are they still installed? 'sudo apt-cache show xscreensaver' will return an error if they are NOT, and will display some info on them if they are indeed installed.
Also try 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure xscreensaver'
For the OpenGL screensavers, you want to use the xscreensaver-gl package in the above commands.

Description: Automatic screensaver for X
The purpose of xscreensaver is to display pretty pictures on your screen
when it is not in use, in keeping with the philosophy that unattended
monitors should always be doing something interesting, just like they do
in the movies.
.
The benefit that this program has over the combination of the xlock and
xautolock programs is the ease with which new graphics hacks can be
installed: you don't need to recompile this program to add a new display
mode, you just change some resource settings. Any program which can be
invoked in such a way that it draws on the root window of the screen can
now be used as a screensaver without modification. The programs that
are being run as screensavers don't need to have any special knowledge
about what it means to be a screensaver.

Origin: Ubuntu
Task: xubuntu-desktop
Want to try reinstalling gnome-screensaver but am wondering what will happen to my gnome desktop environment? (Eerie message warns that desktop will be removed as well) I just reconfigured this tower to be triple-bootable (ubuntu, mandriva, xp pro) and it would be a pain in the arse if I screw up the ubuntu partition...
