i have recently installed Ubuntu Breezy Badger. while i installed Gnome, i can't start it (the Gnome) neither from GDM nor from startx -- :1 command. it just shows the screen with mouse cursor in the middle and nothing happens afterwards. and when i press Ctrl-C to get out i see the following errors:
====
AUDIT: Tue Aug 23 09:46:39 2005: 7301 X: client 1 rejected from local host
Xlib: connection to "1:0" refused by server
Xlib: no protocol specified
It seems I have the same problems.
GDM tends to start gnome, gives me the debian desktop-background, and lets me hanging there afterward. Nothing.
Looked in Xsession.errors --> clean.
gdm log --> clean
any other log --> clean
.gnome files in ~/ I deleted and were created again.
Got this after a clean install from netinstall. Choose basic system and desktop-environment install, which installed. And ran in troubles as mentioned above.
Threw gnome off the system, including gdm.
It uninstalled Xorg, and even tried to uninstall the running kernel.
After installing Xorg again, no windowmanager like KDE or XFCE would startup again.
With startx it would give me the debianlogo background.
Aptitude gives me dependency problems for the openoffice.org-bin package.
Had this problem earlier. Tried to install this package manually in different ways without succes.
My guess is it won't start up for this dependency problem.
Sounds like a bug to me.
