Gnome desktop dissappered,won't boot up

I use the kde desktop but like to switch between kde and Gnome desktops periodically. I install software from both desktops but have not kept an accurate log of all changes and downloads, only the major fixes to problems I run into. Anyway I can't get Ubuntu to boot up,only KDE.That might be fine but you can't do everything in KDE that you can in Gnome unless you set it up that way. What might I have done? Vacuman

Can you change your session to Failsafe Gnome and get in that way?
