GIMP keeps opening my JPG files, how do I make Gwenview the default viewer?
Using Xubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft
.png files open with Gwenview, .jpg files think I want to edit them when I click on them and then the GIMP opens. I just want to be able to double click on an image and view it immediately, I do NOT want to edit it, nor open the GIMP.
I love the GIMP, but this is ridiculous, why won't Gwenview automatically open it? How do I get the reins back from the GIMP, its going crazy!
I get no errors, its just frustrating!
I have Thunar file manager installed as well as konqueror. Konqueror does jsut fine since it can view .jpg's but Thunar refuses to use gwenview for my .jpg's
Thanks in advance!

In Gnome this is the procedure; it's probably very similar for KDE:
1. Right-click on a file in Nautilus
2. Select Properties
3. Select the Open With tab
4. Select the application you want associated with that file-type (or click add to add one)
5. Click OK

I don't have Nautilus
I do not have Nautilus installed, so not sure that is going to help. I have installed Konqueror with Synaptic, and that opens my JPG files with no problem, I also found in Konqueror how to adjust which programs open which file types. Xubuntu ships with Thunar File Manager and since that is the default one I wanted to figure out how to get it to stop opening the GIMP and instead use Gwenview. There seems to be no option to adjust this however.

OK, I installed Thunar, and the directions are almost identical to Nautilus:
1. Right-click on a file in Thunar
2. Select Properties
3. Select the General tab
4. In the Open With drop-down menu, select the application or Other Application to add one
5. Click Close

You fixed it!
Thank you macemoneta!!!
That is what I get for not even checking to see if Thunar was similar to Nautilus! Thanks for your patience and reply. It has indeed worked. I love linux for its simplicity in design. Things really are much more intuitive than M$ Windoze!
I will be sure to try out advice next time even if it is for a different program, lol.
Thanks again.
