getting ubuntu to display on lcd tv

I have my Vista PC setup to display on my 32" LCD TV via component cables. I really would like to run Kubuntu on it but have a few questions...

1. When using the Kubuntu install/liveCD xorg is unable to start X Server. I can install Kubuntu using a PC monitor, but I worry that I won't be able to get it to work when I have it fully installed. Are there any specific commands to put in xorg.conf to make it display to my PC?

2. With Vista, I had a bad overscan problem on the TV, but the Vista Nvidia drivers have an option to correct it. Are there any commands I can use in xorg.conf to correct that as well?

3. Finally, what xorg.conf commands can I use to display in 1080i? If any?

I can't help with all of your issues but I may be able to make a couple of suggestions. First, Partition your hard drive so you can install Kubuntu on its own partition and save your Vista install. That way, if things don't work out the way you want with Kubuntu you can just use Vista.

Second, install Kubuntu using a regular LCD or CRT monitor. Once the install is complete, install the appropriate nVidia driver for your video card. Once the installation is complete, start tinkering with the settings for your 32" TV. Since it sounds like xorg is having difficulty displaying properly on your TV during install, play with the TV settings after you have the OS up and running with a regular monitor.
