getting modem to work in hoary


i installed a usrobitics internal pci pro 56k modem and cannot figure out how to configure dial-up i tried pppconfig, wvdial, and minicom in minicom it says initializing modem but when i try to type the AT command minicom doesnt allow me to type anything. i also d/l gnomeppp a front end gui for wvdial but when i try to launch it it says cannot execute child process can someone help me

If its not a hardware modem then you've got problems. You might try www.linmodems.org to see if its supported.

modem in hoary

it is a hardware modem i finally got it to dialup but it doesnt hold the connection ln -s ttyS14 and it dialed up now if i could get mozilla firefox to work with it anyyway im halfway there

i used minicom which was reading my modem at ttyS1 i changed that to ttyS14 as is in the wvdial.conf pppconfog dials up but i get no connection(msn.com) when i use minicom i dial AT it says ok when i use it to dial up to msn i get a log in to which io type username it wont allow me to type in the password then it times out

if it says its connecting but hangs look at

sudo nano -w /etc/resolv.conf
It should have your nameservers in there if it doesn't add them.

i tried what you said no luck minicom connects me then i can do nothing that link you gave me is broken

connecting to msn with hoary

i tried everything you said to the letter no luck,then i tried to install gnome-ppp-0.3.21 when i did ./configure it got to the end and said it neededlibgnomeuiand GTK2.0 which are both installed of course it couldnt find them. then i tried amsn to which it said it neede TSL.sf which is also installed on my computer do i have to point to the dir they are in

using amsn

itried to load amsn it said connecting to server then error connecting to server could not find socket anyone help
