Get rid of Gnome DE

Downloaded Ubuntu with Gnome
Just hated Gnome
Got KDE - much much better

Can I get rid of all trace of Gnome?
or is it best to just reinstall with Kubuntu?

Started with a new drive - and now 45 gig is used
seems like that might be excessive

I don't hate GNOME, but I do prefer Kubuntu (or even Lubuntu) over Ubuntu. I'd do a new install. Also, 45 GB does seem excessive -- I haven't seen any fresh Linux installation take up that much drive space!

Hi RickM,

Has your disk usage gone down from 45gb, now that you've deleted the trash.tar.gz that I helped you with in your other thread? (You'll need to empty the trash to actually reclaim the disk space, of course.)

You could delete Gnome if you like, but there is no need to (and possibly some risks). The only advantage to removing Gnome would be freeing up a gigabyte or so of disk space, and storage is very cheap in the year 2019.

update - I just went to the uninstall software section and deleted everything with Gnome (I hope)
rebooted and all is well

seems like I am only using 11 gig now - I MUST have reported wrong before
