GAIM MSN Keeps Disconnecting
 

I connect to the internet through a WinXP home PC with ICS (:() and I use gaim as my replacement for MSN messenger.

From time to time it will say 'Message not delievered due to timeout' or 'Message not delivered; switchboard error' (not verbatim) and then require me to re-sign in. Other times it gives me a little dialog box telling me it disconnected and giving me the option to disconnect.

As you can probably guess, this is majorly annoying. Any suggestions?

I think your problem is not due to Gaim, but rather to the MSN servers.

I have been getting the same problem lately. I can't remember when it started but I think it was around the time when MSN Messenger 7.5 came out.

Do you have this problem with MSN Messenger 7.5 too?

Well since posting this I tried aMSN and the official client through Wine (although 7.5 will not install so I used 7), and both suffer similar problems. This leads me to believe (as my sister does not suffer this problem on the windows pc using MSN or Gaim) that it is a connection error caused by using WinXP as a router. Any help?

happened to me

I had a home network with two pcs on linux. It worked perfectly until my sister decided to share the connection, at the beginning I didnt find anny problem so there was then a windows in It too(but the router was still on the linux(Deb)pc). Browsing became quite a hustle and the messenger workd badly too(but only when her pc was on). So i decided to run some anti-virueses on the XP and, after finding aprox 50 virus, the connections came back to normal.

i dont know much about networks but it seems that "sick pcs" can cause lots of trobble.

try running some anti-virus, or reformating the Xp. I suggest you change the router to your computer. hope it helps.

I use the auto-reconnect plugin in gaim. People using gaim can even get rid of the pop up that comes up with gaim and just have it try to reconnect automatically, so the gaim user only signs off for about 10 seconds and he or she is back, but the gaim user never knew it.
