I decided to try out the new Kubuntu i386 5.10 rc today. Took me three installs to get it right and then my newly installed Kubuntu is useless.

I did not enjoy the install choices which are; all software or server(base) install. All or nothing ... nice. Had to take it all. At least I have Punjabi fonts now.

I always have trouble installing grub where I want it and lilo refuses to install. The same for Ubuntu. I finally succeeded.

I did the expert install which gave me the option to set a root password and was prompted to use shadow for more security.

Finally I get to boot into my new install. User name and password accepted.

But I cannot do anything. Everytime I try the root password I set, it is refused. I cannot start a root session because root logins are not allowed.

I think this is a ways away from being a release candidate.

You could have posted this in the Distro Review section, as this is really what this is. Please resubmit it there. I am closing this thread in anticipation.
