flash not working

I used Adept Manager to install 'flashplugin-nonfree' but when I go to nickjr.com (for my daughter, not me ) but I get the message that I need to get Macromedia Flash Player. Shouldn't Adept Manager have taken care of that?

I'm not sure what you mean by putting aboutlugins into Firefox. BTW, I went to the Macromedia site and install flash from there also and still have the same issue.

Thanks.

If you put about:plugins into firefox's address bar (and press RETURN), firefox will tell you what plugins are installed. If it doesn't list Flash, then Flash might be installed on your system, but linked to firefox.

This is how flash should be linked to firefox's plugins directory:

Code:
tredegar@p4:~$ cd /usr/lib/firefox/plugins
tredegar@p4:/usr/lib/firefox/plugins$ ls -al
total 20
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2006-08-07 14:32 .
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 2006-08-07 14:32 ..
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   44 2006-06-11 15:21 flashplayer.xpt -> /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/flashplayer.xpt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   46 2006-06-11 15:21 libflashplayer.so -> /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8652 2006-07-31 16:55 libunixprintplugin.so
So, you could cd /usr/lib/firefox/plugins; ls -al and see if you have the links you need. If they are not there, then make them (man ln). Then restart firefox. All should be well.

OK, I did as you said. Firefox gave me this result:
Quote:
Helix DNA Plugin: RealPlayer G2 Plug-In Compatible
File name: nphelix.so
Helix DNA Plugin: RealPlayer G2 Plug-In Compatible version 0.4.0.592 built with gcc 3.3.5 on Mar 9 2006

MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin RealPlayer Plugin Metafile rpm Yes
Shockwave Flash

File name: libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 7.0 r63

MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf Yes
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl Yes
The I went to Firefox's plugin directory and found this:

Code:
tparks@delld600:/usr/lib/firefox/plugins$ ls -al
total 92
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root  4096 2006-08-21 18:32 .
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root  4096 2006-07-20 21:33 ..
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    44 2006-07-20 21:50 flashplayer.xpt -> /usr/lib/flashp                                                          lugin-nonfree/flashplayer.xpt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    46 2006-07-20 21:50 libflashplayer.so -> /usr/lib/flas                                                          hplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  8652 2006-05-23 16:52 libunixprintplugin.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 58565 2006-08-16 03:56 nphelix.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  5086 2006-08-16 03:56 nphelix.xpt
tparks@delld600:/usr/lib/firefox/plugins$
Everything seems to be in order. And as far as synaptic goes, isn't Adept Package Manager Kubuntu 6.06's answer to that? I could be wrong there but that was my take on it.

Thanks.

This is a bit interesting. I used Adept to install 'libflash-mozplugin' and now I can go to barbie.com with no more flash error message but I still can't go to nickjr.com without getting the message.

Barbie.com, I can't believe this, kids...

From the above, you have flash 7 installed and correctly linked.
Maybe the site that doesn't work needs flash 8, which has not been released for linux yet.
