firewire settings busted after ubuntu studio 10.04 upgrade using update manager


ubuntustudio 10.04
2.30.0 (Ubuntu 2010-03-31)
processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor
memory: 8000 MiB
(self assembly)

dv firewire functionality lost after upgrade

after upgrade, i tried capturing video (dv camera: sony dcr-trv19) and got
kino warning: 'raw1394 kernel module not loaded or failure to read/write /dev/raw1394'

i can't find the solution to restore the firewire setting.
lspci command gives the ff output:

OP, with any operating system I've used, a comprehensive backup of personal files followed by a clean OS install is the way to go.

In the case of desktop machines, installing a new OS onto a 2nd hard drive (each drive being partitioned with a storage volume for backing up/archiving files), and dual-booting with the old OS until the new one proves itself is a further prudent approach to avoiding temporal torture.

BTW. IIRC Ubuntu Studio 10.04 (the 32 bit version anyway) does not use a real time kernel (apparently said rt kernel wasn't ready in time for 10.04's release date).

For now a generic kernel has been used instead.
