Speaking of Snaps, here's a new idea.

If you go here: https://snapcraft.io/firefox

and change the version, it'll let you choose the ESR version to install for any version of Ubuntu 16.04 or higher

^ yes but with that you are opening up a whole new world of pain.
And incidentally, Ubuntu's snap flooding is the 2nd reason to ditch it forever.

Ehh, it's an option for the OP.

I've yet to forgive the world for taking menu.lst and /etc/inittab from me, but I try to roll with changes like Snappy/Flatpak if I plan to be using Linux for decades more. Difference in philosophy
