Firefox closing unexpectedly

I'll open Firefox, browse a few pages, then Firefox will close as if I hit the "X". No warning or notice of any kind, just shuts down. Anybody experience this? Any ideas as to how to correct this behavior?

I've been having such a problem related to javascript on my AMD64 setup. Try disabling it. If that stops the problem you know the cause, but it's not a satisfactory solution.

I've encountered similar closings and I've thought it's either Java or Flash that's causing it. The pages that tend to crash the browser (but not every time?) have included both Java and Flash so I'm not completely sure, and I haven't had time to figure it out so..hopefully you'll get the reason out too. But yes, I'd suspect too it's java (or flash).

As this has been happening primarily on one computer help site I go to I asked the question in their Linux forum. I got two responses that others are experienceing similar problems and blameing it on an IBM ad with flash or java. On my Windows box I use adblock in Firefox to block some offending ads. Is adblock avilable for Firefox for Linux?

I've seen it as well. I'm on the Internet a lot but the event is infrequent and somewhat irregular in occurence so I haven't tied the failure to a specific cause. Just restarting Firefox makes all well.

This was ONLY happening on my AMD64 installation. I had a major site, www.cbs.com, that would unfailingly kill any browser I tried, unless I disabled javascript. I updated every javascript related program I could find, installed a bunch of new ones, updated the browsers, everything I could think of ... nothing worked. Finally decided to get crazy, and do a complete dist-upgrade to Sid.

That fixed the Mozilla-based browsers, but Konqueror still crashes. Not a big problem for me since I only use Konqueror occasionally. I can't tell you what the key to fixing it was, but I'm happy, ... and the dist-upgrade to Sid didn't (obviously) break anything else.

Changed my sources.list back to Testing, and I'll wait for it to catch up.

open konsole and type 'firefox' ...firefox runs...browse some pages until it crashes and then look at konsole you should have some form of error messages there and post it here for us to see.

or get swiftfox...runs better any way and it's up to date build for ubuntu..

If you want to close your terminal, but not your browser, type nohup firefox.
