Finally got sound to work, still no sound from Internet, please help

Hi all,

I am using UBUNTU 8.10. I've done all the updates that were recommended. I've tried all the settings in system/preferences/sound and have them all set to "Audigy 1 [SB0900](rev.3, serial:Ox531102) Multichannel Playback (ALSA).

In system/preferences/sound:

Autodetect did not have any sound with test button.
ALSA - Advanced LINUX Sound Architecture NO SOUND either
OSS - Open Sound System DOES have sound.

The Volume control is okay. Everything is at 100% and nothing is muted. Analog/digital output jack in switches is disabled.

In a different forum someone mentioned that it might be the player that I'm using or "Flash". I DO get sound when using Rhythmbox Music Player but get NO sound using Alsaplayer when playing a CD. I still cannot hear any sound from You Tube or AO Hell radio. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

Jay

hi

I do not use Ubuntu but can you explain this a bit?
Everything is at 100% and nothing is muted. Analog/digital output jack in switches is disabled. outputs disabled is the bit that concerns me.

a screenshot link of your mixer settings....alsamixer would be handy?

2) getting no sound and getting no sound in a web browser are different issues which is why others are talking about ...flashplayer in web browser (or its open source cousins) to get sound for youtube.

I do not use Rhythmbox Music Player so can offer no help there.

An attempt at including a screenshot

Hi all,

I've tried to send a screen shot of my volume control as an attachment to this post.

If it comes across correctly, perhaps it may help someone to help me with my problem with not receiving any sound from the internet.

Another screenshot from sound

Here's another screen shot from System/Preferences/Sound. Hopefully it will also help you diagnose the reason that I DO have sound when listening to a CD, or an video file attached to an email. But NO sound when listening to YOU TUBE or AOL Radio.

Thanks,

Jay
