External HDD Error

My External USB HDD was working in Ubuntu without any problems. Foolishly, I tried to change the filesystem from FAT32 to NTFS in the properties of the device. After I shut off the HDD and turned it back on I got an error message:
Quote:
The volume 'LACIE' uses the NTFS file system which is not supported by your system.
My Comp is dual-booted with Vista and when I go into Vista, the HDD works fine and is still using the FAT32 filesystem.

Is there any way to correct this?

you need a kernel with ntfs support

I concur... With Ubuntu you might simply be able to say

modprobe ntfs

...Or is it not ntfs... ntfs-3g.... I dont remember anymore.

This loading the ntfs module rather than a whole kernel recompile. I am not sure how the Ubuntu stock kernels are set up

Give it a try, then try mounting the drive.

You will have to do the modprobe ntfs in a terminal window, and most likely you will have to say:

sudo modprobe ntfs

Ok, I managed to fix the problem by using a program called pysdum and using that to mount it.

Thanks for your help.
