Error with MidnightCommander

MidnightCommander error
I have installed the last relesase of MC on Ubuntu, and I have a couple of errors.
1) When opening a file for edit, a "Syntax file missing" error is displayed. Then it opens for editing.
2) When editing a file any character a type is displayed as a dot (".")

Tried to uninstall (apt-get), and clean, and re-install. But no change.
Thank you for help.

What type of file are you trying to edit? I have mc 4.7.0 on Ubuntu 10.04 and it will edit a text file just fine. Perhaps the file you are trying to exit is not text.
