Error while trying to use Mplayer

Hello people

I have installed and reinstalled Ubuntu Dapper Drake a few times in the last few weeks (testing different installation patterns..no real problems) per se

Well, I think someone updated the mplayer package to a different version that seems to now have a bug; wondering if anyone else is noticing it.

When attempting to play a video with MPlayer; I get an error (the video and sound still play but I can't control the image and there is an error box over the video) that says "it seems there is no xvideo support for your video card."

I know my drivers are installed correctly; but I will state that I am using a 9200SE Radeon and had to do the fix where i replaced the lib.so.12 with a downloaded version because the one that installs with xorg-driver-fglrx seems to cause problems with my card.

Thanks

Are you using the ATI fglrx driver or the standard? Looks to me like this could be a problem with video driver - not entirely surprising, ATI's binary linux drivers are horrible and bug-prone.

In a console, try xvinfo and post the output...

I am using the fglrx driver specifically written for ubuntu. I will qualify that statement by saying that there is this python program called "EasyUbuntu" available on http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper that installs all the "goodies" that most somewhat noob users like myself would want to acquire.

Hope that helps.

what if you use a different video out?

For example:

mplayer vo=X11 videofile.avi

i haven't tried that but am willing to do so. In the meantime, I have been using VLC and have been quite satisfied
