Error trying to install Ubuntu 7.04

Hey guys, I burned a disc for the new Ubuntu iso but I get a weird error. It loads the menu for Ubuntu (install and run ubuntu, check for disc defects, etc.) but when I try to select an option it says "I/O Error" and has a button that says reboot. And after every reboot, I get the same thing.

I tried reburning the disc with multiple software and tried downloading different iso's. All given me the same error. Anyone know what the problem could be? The iso seems to be burned correctly because it detects it during boot-up.

I appreciate the help guys

What are your system specs? Could be some hardware incompatibility. Did you try a MemTest or hard drive utilities? I personally have had problems with SCSI disks with Ubuntu 6.06/6.10/7.04 in VMware.

Are you using the cd in the same computer/cd reader?

I've burned a few isos (using nero and win2k) and even though everything seems to go fine, when I move the cd to another computer I have problems. I had to burn using a few different media (i.e. cd-r, cd-rw, differnt brands) before I found a combo that works. I have 4 computers and their dvd/cd players are all a bit sensitive to discs they didn't write themselves.

Even then, writing a complete iso that fills the entire disc can be difficult to get perfect. Try burning with a slower rate.

If the checksums detect errors, then either your reader or the writer or the disc itself has some weaknesses and you will need to experiment.

Good point! I have burned some DVD movies on a Samsung, but the DVD's don't work on my Memorex DVD player. But it works fine on my Sony DVD.

hello, i had some bad luck with most windows burning software programs I tried. So I stick with k3b burner program at 4x 0r 8x sao. I updated with update manager. It told 5 hours 15 minutes to update to ubuntu 7.04 and it works fine. radical distro.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Right now I have Windows XP running on an Acer Aspire 1640 laptop. It could be that I'm using Windows software to burn the ISO. So that could be the problem. But I'm trying dual boot the laptop so I'm using the same CD-R that I burned on the same computer.

Thing is I've burned previous Ubuntu ISO's in Windows and had no problems.

Hi, i was going to say the same thing, I have burnt Ubuntu ISO's with windows, checked them and they work fine. (I did this when i entered into linux - you need linux to use linux ) So i don't know if that is necessarily the problem. I'm not one to know what exactly is but i might not be completely convinced that there is anything wrong with your disc or reader, i have burnt and installed ubuntu with the same drive (Today i chose to install Ubuntu 7.04 fresh rather than update) and everything worked fine not to mention i have done other installs the same way.
-It could be a mouse or keyboard problem, do you have all the correct equipment / software? Though it shouldn't be a problem it might be worth it to check / make sure theres no way the system can get "confused" or "stuck".

Would Ubuntu actually remove hardware drivers from one release to the next? I've installed 5.10 through 6.10 off a CD onto the same laptop with no problems. This version (Feisty) has been the first version to actually not let me install it.
