error 22, different one
Lets start from the beginning:
My laptop (HP pavilion ze5185) is running Ubuntu 7.04 FF, and was constantly shutting down, due to "overheating", or some other issues. I would start it up, it would run okay for 5-30 minutes, then complain "critical temp 53 C" and shut down, and when it didn't complain about that, it would shut down due to some other reason. I went into the garage to blow out the dust (which there was plenty of, lol). I still got that error, so I know it wasn't the dust causing that issue. I tried getting into my BIOS to check the shutdown temp, but somehow my BIOS p/w was changed, and I tried all the backdoor passwords, none of which worked. I then started Ubuntu up, and kept getting "error 22". After the 3rd time, I pressed the ESC key, and it showed not one, but TWO Ubuntu OS's for some reason. I booted up under the 2nd one to see if I'd get the error again, and to see if I somehow messed something up when installing it before. It booted up perfectly fine, and all the settings and everything was saved onto this "partition", too. I haven't gotten any shutdowns *yet*, and I was finally able to install the updates, and not have Ubuntu crash. So... Does anyone know how or why I have 2 "different partitions" of Ubuntu? Or even have a clue as to how that happened? Also, does anyone know how to reset the bios password on a laptop? I originally set it, so my dad wouldn't/couldnt lock me out of my computer (again), because he was mad at me. ~Brian |
First one is the normal boot...
Second one is the safe boot... AFAIK... It seem that you've (or your pc) messed up the configuration/filesystem etc. Try running fsck.ext3 /dev/(your hd here)... Hope this helps... :) |
My dad said it was probably because one was updated to -16, while the original was -15 (idk what he meant by that). It works fine now, though. :) :)

The crititcal temperature is acting up again. How do I change/fix the critical temperature problem? I'm looking at getting a brand new fan, and replacing the thermal paste, but I want to know if there's any other way to keep the processor cool (without slowing down the CPU power)
