Question Emerald Theme Manager Difficulty - Any Help is Welcome

Hi There,

I've started to use Compiz on my machine, and have loved it so far, its a lot of fun and equally useful!

I would also like to be able to use the Emerald Theme Manager, unfortunately I cannot get it to work properly. Thus, I've come here to seek some help, anything that can help me will be very useful. Thank you!

(I am a relatively new user to linux, however I can try my best at anything)

When running Emerald theme manager through SYstem > Pref. > Emerald theme manager, I can install and 'Add' different themes, however they do not alter the current theme, the computer looks the same.
Thus, I've run it through my terminal, and out pops this error message:

(THe message seems straight-forward, however I do not know how to do what it asks, or if there a simpler way to fix this problem)

mike@mvacc-tpad:~$ emerald -replace
emerald: Could not acquire decoration manager selection on screen 0 display ":0.0"

***This message comes AFTER trying to 'drag and drop' a theme from Emerald***

(emerald-theme-manager:16859): Gtk-WARNING **: You must override the default 'drag_data_received' handler on GtkTreeView when using models that don't support the GtkTreeDragDest interface and enabling drag-and-drop. The simplest way to do this is to connect to 'drag_data_received' and call g_signal_stop_emission_by_name() in your signal handler to prevent the default handler from running. Look at the source code for the default handler in gtktreeview.c to get an idea what your handler should do. (gtktreeview.c is in the GTK source code.) If you're using GTK from a language other than C, there may be a more natural way to override default handlers, e.g. via derivation.

I am running Ubuntu (Feisty).

Thanks so much!

Don't worry.

Most of that stuff is for developers, but if you were a developer you may find it useful.

"mike@mvacc-tpad:~$ emerald -replace
emerald: Could not acquire decoration manager selection on screen 0 display ":0.0""

This may mean that you don't have all the require packages for emerald to run.

LQ has a fantastic search function. But now you should look to the bottom of the page for any related links.

That may give you a faster result.

Regards, Glenn

ps. next time try the search before posting a new thread.

I personally use kwin (the kde window manager).

If you want to use beryl with aquamarine or or compiz with emerald

you may need to install compositing-wm. (edit) /etc/sysconfig/compositing-wm.

(you may also find in /etc/sysconfig a file called compiz, and one called xgl, they may just have one line, compiz=yes or no and the same for xgl. (end-edit)GW

There are client and a server variants.

The server is for accessing extra terminals remotely.

See if that helps any.

Glenn

Well.. Heres what I did for anyone having a similar problem..

I uninstalled everything..

sudo apt-get remove -y beryl*
sudo apt-get remove -y emerald*

then did a full re-install with all beryl packages i could find.. (Compiz seems to be a bit more finicky than Beryl)
Re installed emerald.. Placed beryl-manager and emerald -replace in my sessions on startup.. Restarted, and then under the Beryl Icon made sure Emerald was selected as my windows manager and TaDa... It worked..

Thanks Glenn for your help
