Question Email Log File

Hi ,

Most email clients maintain a log file in which all communication
with remote pop server is recorded

1) if i use evolution email client where will be this log file stored ?
2)what about web based email will there be any log file on users computer ? if there is any where will it be stored on a ubuntu machine?

3) why whenever i try to access pop account via telnet the following happens ? is there any better way to access pop account via command line ?
Or do i require a high speed internet connection ?

telnet 209.85.139.19 110
Trying 209.85.139.19...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out

Question

I tried the following

telnet pop.gmail.com 995
Trying 209.85.147.109...
Connected to gmail-pop.l.google.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
USER sulekha
Connection closed by foreign host.

why google doesn't allow email access via telnet ?
