Edubuntu from live CD displays login prompt

I downloaded Edubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) to see how it would run as a live CD on some slower systems. It ran fine on the faster of the two systems, the Gnome desktop came right up.

However on a legacy Pentium system after the CD loaded in, I was greeted with a login prompt instead. Without any login information, I obviously could not do anything with it. Was this to be expected, or should it have displayed the Gnome desktop automatically as it did on the other system?

It should have automatically started a GUI. It could be that there was a problem with your hardware, most likely your graphics card and thats why you were dropped into a login shell prompt. Try booting into the live cd using the safe mode option.

The GUI login prompts came up, not a shell login.

I reloaded the CD a second time and the Gnome desktop came up.
