Edgy and manually compiled modules...

Hi guys,

for the last four days I've been trying to find out why edgy (amd64)
doesn't 'remember' installed modules, and my wife is not very impressed.

We've tried to use the nvidia modules that come from the repositories
for two days, but those just wouldn't work; uninstalled them, grabbed
the package from the nvidia site which compiles, installs and works
fine. But after a reboot it doesn't pick it up, I always need to manually
insmod it and run init something to get X to work.

Adding it to /etc/modules didn't change that, neither does loading
it from /etc/rc.local seem to work. Any ideas how to deal with this?

As a Linux veteran I'm getting very annoyed with ubuntu right
now - in their attempts to make things easy they've screwed so
many basic concepts up (in my not so humble opinion) that it's
barely worthwhile trying to stick with it.

Cheers,
Tink

Greets.
Thats rare, the nvidia installator should be enough; did you use nvidia-xconfig after install?
Please post both kernel version and nvidia module (or driver... whatever) version.

What's the line you add manually?
EDIT: Anyway should look like this: alias char-major-195 nvidia (at least in amd32)
