Eclipse can't find JAVA

I am using Ubuntu 7.10.. And i am very new in ubuntu and eclipse in linux.. I installed the Eclipse using the Synaptic packet manager.
unfortunately i had forgot to install the JAVA before. So i started the Eclipse after that. Then it throws an error..

" can't find java in /usr/lib/java1.4.0/bin"

I downloaded the jdk 1.6 from sun web site and installed in a local folder in my home directory..

"/home/XXX/jdk1.6.0"

after that i coped the the jdk1.6.0 to /usr/lib, after that i renamed the folder jdk1.6.0 to jdk1.4.0

now also it throws the same error. so how can solve this and make the eclipse as working one.

vi /etc/eclipse/java_home

then add this line to the top of the list

/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.00/jre or wherever you stuck it

you can get your exact version w/ java -version
