DVD Drive Problem- Might be hardware problem...
When I started up my PC this morning, it no longer automounts my DVD drive. I can put in a DVD, and play it w/o issue, but I have to go to Computer, then Choose to Mount the drive. Then I can open Xine/Totem, whatever, and play the movie no prob.
Well, in the midst of all that, I had been debating downloading Puppy Linux to give it a try, and decided to download it since I had some downtime. Insert the blank DVD R's I've been using forever, and it doesn't autorecognize the disk like it usually did. So I right click the icon under Computer, and choose Mount, and its saying, "Media not found". Tried using GNomebaker to burn the ISO, and it is also saying media not found. The disks are definitely not used/full, its happened to several, even the ones I took off the bottom of the stack.

I know this won't help, and it's just my opinion, but I've found dapper to be far more stable than edgy. Maybe they'll get it all fixed in fiesty

I've had no trouble at all with Edgy(or Dapper for that matter). I did run a ton of updates just about 20min ago, and upon restarting, my DVD drive is working again.., go figure. I suspect the 1 or 2 updates I did yesterday, might have messed with my DVD drive, and when I installed the updates today, it corrected something, but thats just a guess.
I'm still happy because I haven't been assaulted by spyware, viruses, pop-ups, etc. The number of probs I've had with Edgy in about 2mo, I can probably count on one hand (well, ones that weren't user related, ). As for Windows, I had few problems out of it, I just got sick of the constant security threats, etc.
Thanks...
