Dual display with Laptop

I am currently running Ubuntu 7.10 on an old Fujitsu Lifebook, E series.
I want to be able to connect a larger, external display to the VGA connector either switchable or better still dual headed but this does not work.
It was suggested that I try Knoppix and that does exactly what I want.
Has anyone had any success in transferring relevant portions of xorg.conf from knoppix to ubuntu to acheive dual head operation?
Or perhaps another solution?
Cliff

This should work fine - just copy it over after you have made a backup of your original xorg.conf. Try it
If it doesn't work, post the xorg.conf, and let us know what video chipset you have.

Hi Tredegar,
I have three versions of xorg.conf
The basic xorg.conf
and xorg.conf.20071207182536
and xorg.conf.20071207182536~
Am I right to assume the last one is the active one?

No, the "active" one is the one with the proper filename xorg.conf
The others are backups and may be different.
