Dual booting with Windows crshed

My eMachines laptop with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04(LTS) has stopped booting unexpetedly after tryung to resize the Linux partition. The Windows rescue disk is ineffective and Ubuntu does not reinstall. OpenSolaris installs from Live CD, but I cannot see my previous folders or files in Windows or Ubuntu.

How were you trying to resize, from a Linux Live CD using GParted or some other method?
If Ubuntu does not reinstall, can you boot it? If you can, you should be able to get information on the partitions and boot files which would help someone to help you. Were you trying to move the beginning of the partition to the right?
What does ineffective mean? What happens when you boot with the windows rescue disk?

Why not use a Virtual Machine? You boot to Windows, then run VirtualBox (free) for Windows, and run a Ubuntu ISO under that. Make sure to get the ISO for Ubuntu. It's also a lot safer as the Ubuntu will run in a sandbox. You can assign disk space and memory limits for the VM also.

grub rescue, opensolaris, ubuntu 12.04, windows 7
