DRI2 extension return empty driver name when running gallium3d for i965

I am trying to run gallium3d for i965. I compiled, but when I call glxCreateContext, __glxIntizalize cannot load the proper driver and instead loads the softpipe driver.

I debugged the code and the problem is that the i965 driver is not loaded because __glxIntizalize cannot find a dri2 driver - the reply from the xserver returns an empty driver name string. Here is the code that does that:

XextCheckExtension(dpy, info, dri2ExtensionName, False);

GetReq(DRI2Connect, req);
req->reqType = info->codes->major_opcode;
req->dri2ReqType = X_DRI2Connect;
req->window = window;
req->driverType = DRI2DriverDRI;
if (!_XReply(dpy, (xReply *) & rep, 0, xFalse)) {
return False;
// At this point rep.driverNameLength = 0.
