disk full, encryption

Hi,

I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, using an encrypted home folder.

Today I started moving data from an external drive into my home, without realizing I din't have enough space.

What happened is that my encrypted home grew up and filled the disk, the system crashed and now it is unable to complete the boot process.

My home is ok, the encryption hasn't been damaged, so I managed to access it and delete some GBs of data. However the disk remains full, I guess the encrypted image is not shrinking, so I can't solve the boot issue.

Is there some utility to recover space, reducing the size of my home ?

Thank you

This may be a long shot - but it looks like the deleted items may still be in the recycle bin - check that first. If this does not work then boot up the pc and then run 'shutdown -r -F' this will run fdisk on the next boot.
Hope this helps.
If there are more developments please post back.

hi,

after deleting ~100Gb of data the problem disappeared, I guess there is some sort of threshold I hit and the encrypted image did resize afterall.

@honeybagger: thank you for your good advice, however I was deleting files from the command line in this case
