Disable GOsa and get old Firefox back

I was browsing through the Ubuntu Software Center when I came upon Gosa2 2.5.19.1 and thought it might be something to try out. After installation, Firefox seems to have a clean profile. Well I don't want Firefox to have a clean profile; I want to be able to view history from weeks ago.

When I go to Applications>system tools>Gosa, I'm directed to a page that says: "Error 404 Sorry, the requested document could not be found on this server." I've tried uninstalling GOsa, but that doesn't help. What to do? Any help would be much appreciated.

To tell you the truth, I'd be cool to disable GOsa and then get rid of it.

Did you try the suggestion that was given to you when you asked this question on the Ubutnu forums?
http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.....php?t=1433410
And if so, what was the result?
You should, at the very least, report back to the person who answered your thread on the Ubuntu forums. They may be able to provide you with further assistance, if you need it.
If the problem is solved, then please mark this thread Solved.

There is no problem with asking the same question here though. At the very least, please report back to anyone who answers this thread; so we can know what is going on.
What happens if you simply uninstall Gosa?
Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge gosa
Are you running a server or a desktop? It seems that Gosa is mostly for server administration:

Please see my response at:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/104843

A partial quote: "I closed firefox, and in a terminal entered sudo firefox -P, which evoked Profile Manager. There, I selected my original default profile. When I restarted firefox, all was back to normal.

"Of course I'll post appropriate thanks at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...t-back-232613/. But I do thank Launchpad Ubuntu, too."

I had tried "sudo apt-get --purge remove gosa; sudo apt-get --purge autoremove; sudo," as suggested in that thread, and got more output than I'd anticipated, but part of it said:

(Reading database ... 226007 files and directories currently installed.)

" . . .Removing gosa ...

Purging configuration files for gosa ...

dpkg: warning: while removing gosa, directory '/usr/share/gosa' not empty so not removed.

Processing triggers for man-db ...

Reading package lists... Done

Building dependency tree

Reading state information... Done . . ."

But you are correct, I'm remiss in not telling the forums how the problem got solved. Typically, I google for information/solutions and if I don't find what I want there, I search various open source forums, and if I don't find "it" on one of those, I post new threads. And also typically, whichever forum I get the solution at is the one that I post results and thanks on. But, yes, I'll start following up on all forums I post on.

The link you mention, "http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.....php?t=1433410," I didn't read until a few minutes ago; thus, I never tried that advice. I guess I could replicate the problem (since I know what will fix it) and try the yet untried (by me) solution and get back with you. I have, in fact, had some folks do that for me in the past.

By the way, I'm running a desktop. Like I mentioned, I ran across GOsa2 in Ubuntu Software Center and liked what I read. I guess I was just bored and wanted something to do; but not bored enough to do anything really constructive, like, say, read Linux Commandline Basics. But I do have something of a problem, more like an inconvenience, that I was wondering if GOsa could help with. I'll either start a new thread for that, amend this thread later.

Thank you very much,

Randall

Ok then, glad you got it fixed.

It is always good to report back to those who try to help you out when you start a thread here on LQ, or any linux forum.
1. Other people who may have the same problem may stumble upon your thread when they do a search. Answering your thread with the outcome of your problem can help out others with similar difficulties who find your thread with a search. This is how I found your thread on the Ubuntu forums. I searched for an answer to your thread here to try to help you.
2. When people respond to a thread here on LQ or any linux forum, they are sincerely trying to help you. I know that when I try to help someone out, I always look for that person's reply. I like to know if my suggestions were helpful; and it helps me to learn how to troubleshoot problems not only for myself, but in order to help others, when I can.
This is how these forums work after all. You ask a question. You learn something in the process. Then you pass on the knowledge to others. To not reply to those who try to help you defeats this process.

Just because I am eternally curious about this stuff, and because I like to learn about this stuff and help others as well, what exactly is the problem you are having?
Also, if you start a new thread about that, then please post a link to it here.
And do take the time to learn those linux command line basics. Learning basic linux commands is the most important thing for learning how to work with linux in my experience. It will pay off in the long run.
