The Ubuntu guide for installing Restricted Formats is all you need, gives you all the repositories you need and you will end up with a cleaner and less problematic system. Ubuntu recommends *against* using either of those scripts, so if you decide to use them and you get a messed up system, you have only yourself to blame.
I used EasyUbuntu only very briefly, and did have some unusual problems with it.

I found mention of Automatix on this site, and installed it on Dapper. It worked absolutely flawlessly. When I did a fresh install of Automatix2 under Edgy, again, it has worked flawlessly. It installs alot of programs, with little to no effort, and pretty much keeps it simple.

Thats an informative site about the Region codes and changing them, hadn't saw that one... Thanks for posting..

binary_y2k2 is right on target. If you want a stable system stick with what Ubuntu recommends. Sometimes things outside the recommendations seem to work but come back and bite you later where you don't expect them to. Another one to avoid is deb packages not built for Ubuntu.
