DEB files

I have adobe reader downloaded to my desktop as a .deb file. The file shows a lock. How do I execute this installer with root permission?

First of all, why don't you use the repository version? It's easier to install
About the deb file, if you double click on it an installation dialog should come up to aid you in the process. You'll be asked for the administrator password to install it as root.

To install debian packages, you can do something like
Code:
#dpkg -i somefile.deb

Yup, makes perfect sense, used the one in repository. All better.
