Dapper upgrade gone horribly wrong

Tried upgrading using both apt-get dist-upgrade, then I tried doing it using Adept as is suggested on the Kubuntu main site, and both gave me the error
Code:
Unpacking replacement zlib1g ...
 /var/cache/apt/archives/libasound2-dev_1.0.10-2ubuntu4_i386.deb
 /var/cache/apt/archives/libasound2_1.0.10-2ubuntu4_i386.deb
dpkg run finished!
Next I looked up the package 'libasound' which was giving me trouble with adept. I couldn't upgrade it (same error) and couldn't remove it. So I changed /etc/apt/sources.list back to the 'breezy' settings in order to remove it. I do back into Adept and remove the libasound2 package. Then the thing goes on a rampage and removes most of KDE!!!
I have almost no functionality, konqueror is gone along with the rest of the KDE utilites (although I'm still in KDE).
Now I'm here backing up all of my important things into a usb HD via bash.

What went wrong? And can I do a fresh install with the dapper cd (I have already burned it just in case) without touching my other partitions?

As usual, help is appreciated...

What went wrong?
No idea.
Can you use the Dapper CD.
Yes, and the installer is really different. It's like a live cd but there is an icon that will allow an individual to install the operating system.

ErrorBound: You may have unadvertedly agreed to removing some meta packages (or even the "kubuntu-desktop" meta package, taking most of KDE with it, especially if you installed Kubuntu on a running Ubuntu.

If I got you right, you're still in Breezy. Try reinstalling the "kubuntu-desktop" meta package by doing
Code:
$ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
If things go wrong, you could try to use the Dapper CD to run an upgrade; there's another thread that gives directives about that.

Reinstalling shouldn't be necessary - if it's only KDE that went down the drain...
