Dapper Drake
Has anyone been playing around with Dapper? I installed it about a month ago and it was ok but still waiting until the final release whicih is June 1st I belive.
Anyways just wondering what you people think regarding the multimedia and other functions of the new OS. |
I tried the Kubuntu AMD64 Live CD, and I was impressed.
I will wait until the final version comes out to install it, but I think it looks good. --Ian |
I tried the 64-bit version of Kubuntu over the weekend and was quite impressed. Ended up throwing a wobbler trying to run the 1.4-beta2 of Amarok and it's associated libraries, but was impressed with KDE 3.5, which looked very slick, and Adept. Not sure whether more experienced users will appreciate / like it as much, but for new users was certainly looking good. Hardware support seemed fine, though I don't really run anything exotic other than the X2 3800+ processor, and still had the same issues with 32-bit apps + libraries. Looking good though :)

I've been running dapper since the day the repositories opened.
It started off well, sort of went a bit downhill at one point but at the moment it is running very well. Even though it's not released yet it's proving to be very stable for me, certainly more so than Fedora Core 5. I would have a look at dapper section on ubuntu forums to get a better idea of how things are going and what plans they have - http://www.ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=111 |
I upgraded from breezy to dapper by editing /etc/apt/sources.list, then doing "apt-get dist-upgrade". Everything worked except sound was no longer functioning. I couldn't figure it out, but re-installed dapper on the same computer using one of the "flight" CDs and sound was working.
I am now using dapper every day at work and it works fine. I run "apt-get dist-upgrade" daily to keep up and have had no major problems. There are lots of upgrades daily so it seems the ubuntu developers are hard at work getting ready for release. |
i've been using dapper 1 month ago, and keep upgrading everyday.
about multimedia system, i think there were some problems with the gstreamer0.10 a month ago, but now the multimedia system work well for me:) |
Dapper is a gem! and some folks have already started stringing together wiki that have worked for me. I would say it is as stable, if not more stable, than some of the gold-master releases of other distro's (IMO). Here is an example of an excellent documentation and help/wiki: http://www.krazypenguin.net/Ubuntu_D...ake_6.06_Guide
Kudo'd to the guy that did this! |
I have been running Dapper for about a month on my Gateway 450sx4 laptop and my Gateway 750 w/amd processor. The only issue I seem to have run into to date is the nvidia driver. Other that that I have have not run into any major issues. In the past few days the updates have been coming out almost twice a day making my distro even better. Wireless on my laptop has been hassle free (intel BG2100 internal wireless) I have been using Ubuntu since the bginning of Breezy and have not had problems. This distro has great hardware recognition as well. My all in one HP 1510 printer was recognized and set up without effort. No other distro has been able to do that thus far. I have switched several linux and windows users to Dapper. As far as multimedia, I only have one issue with wmv files from the net. The sound codec is not recognized by xine, totem to date. Hopefully this will be remedied in the next update or two.

Been playing around with it and quite impressed. Too lazy to install mplayer at this time. Hoping that it will appear in one of the repositories soon because really too lazy corresponding with compiling the application.
|
You can now upgrade by typing
Code:
gksudo "update-manager -d" |

apt-cache show mplayer I really like dapper. Been testing it since january and found it very stable and polished. I also like to play around with Xgl & Compiz to see where my standard desktop will be in about a year :). I think this will be a _very_ nice release. |
Post your repos please os that I may add to mine.

I've been a SuSE KDE x86_64 user for quite a while but wanted to see why Ubuntu was so popular and also wanted to give Gnome a try. So far I like it but still have some kinks to work out. I gave up on Zapping couldn't get it to work with my TV card even after a few hours. TVtime however came right up even easier than it had in SuSE KDE. MP3 is still a mystery but I'll fiddle a bit more before I go to Amorok. I want to give preference to the Gnome default applications. There's a lot to like with Dapper Drake.

I actually found this website and all has been solved! How this website cannot be presented regarding any search results for Google or forums is beyond me.
