I'm not so sure. I still think they should have considered another release cantidate, as Dapper worked didn't work so well on my machine in certain departments. Ubuntu's first "enterprise release" couldn't do such simple tasks as play audio CDs, give me a resolution higher than 1024x768 and set my time correctly. They hadn't fixed these for the release cantidate so I've essentially lost hope for the final. Sure, I could spend time fixing them, but for a release that has made it's goal to be especially user-friendly and set for production environments it's alreadly failed. It didn't work out of the box, which is an outright necessity for the type of people Shuttleworth is trying to attract. If it doesn't work outright for most, then they have not reached their goal. That's a failure. If only they'd give themselves a little more time then it could be a great release. They've made very strong improvements and finally have a strong base to build on.
What about "Release Candidate" isn't understood. Try SuSE 10.1 GM for an actual release worthy of disgust.
True enough. I have not tried the Ubuntu release candidate, but I have tried the Kubuntu 6.06 RC and found it to be excellent--a substantial improvement in polish and speed compared to 5.10. I agree with fragos that I feel like I am running the release already.
BTW, mine played audio CDs and set the time OK without issue.
Looks like Ubuntu 6.06 LTS did arrive on time. I will be waiting for propagation to my local mirror before I try and fly with the Dapper Drake release.
I'm new to Ubuntu and have been running the 6.0.6 RC. Have the updates to RC effectively created the released version? It would seem so but assumptions can lead to falsehood.

I have it and it's still just as beautiful as the beta release was. I ordered CD's for friends, so I guess I can wait for 6 weeks for those, but I'll download the official release meanwhile...
Worked as you said. Since it made no changes or deletion to my system, my supposition that the updated 6.0.6 RC equals the 6.0.6 release should be true.
