custom kernel panics

did some searching on the forums, found threads with similar problems, but no solutions, and they were getting different errors.

i just rebuilt the lateste kernel (im not inexperienced at building kernels, so i know what im doing). ive done custom build numerous times on other distros without error. now i get to ubuntu, i do the exact same process as before, and get to rebooting. upon bootup, i select my grub entry for my new kernel, and all goes to hell. i get a kernel panic:

"kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init."

ive had this problem before with a prevois ubuntu version, but blew it off and thought it would be fixed in the new hoary release.

"kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init."

That is the kernel's dying message. Please post the half dozen or so messages before the kernel panic message. These messages should show what is going wrong that leads into a kernel panic.

oh man, im not going to write down the kernel panic, there's a lot. and remeber there is no cut&paste.

i can say that they were some modprobe errors. there couldnt be any problems mounting the FS because those werent modules, i built those in.
