Copying configuration

I am setting up a few computers with xubuntu, and I want them to have an identicle configuration.

After I set up one computer, i.e. removing a lot of the apps, installing a few others, locking down an account and customizing the interface....what is the easiet way to automatically copy this configuration to other computers?

Is there an automated way, or must it be manually done?

Are the computers identical hardware wise ?

If so you could use dd to make a disk image of the configured machine and copy that image to each of the other hard drives for use in the other computers.

Redhat has kickstart, for configuring installs but I don't know if ubuntu has anything similar.

You could also set them up with puppet which would keep them the same even over configuration changes.

No, not identical hardware, and wasn't looking for something as complex as puppet since they are not networked at this stage.

Manually it is I guess.
