That looks like your flash drive but it isn't recognized as a drive. If you disconnect it does that line go away?

From the looks of it, your missing some usb drivers. see if the following helps
Code:
sudo modprobe uhci
 sudo modprobe ohci
 sudo modprobe xhci
 sudo modprobe usb-storage

Nothing. did an apt-cache search and I can't find anything that fits. I'll keep looking. Otherwise I'll install debian and then install the driver.

Thanks for your help. It's much appreciated.

You could use gparted and try to format the flash drive.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/81125...n-ubuntu-16-04

Debian should recognize your flash drive out of the box.

Connect the USB then post the result of
Code:
dmesg | tail
and
Code:
lsblk -f

I'm trying to do it in kubuntu.

Looks like you've got a duff device as the O/S can't read it to be able to give it a file descriptor, such as /dev/sdb.

Send it back as faulty.

That's weird because I just used it to install windows 7 on a laptop that was borked because someone installed windows 10. I'll see if I have another one.

Thanks
