Continual Installation Issues

Hello everyone,

Just installed ubuntu 5.04 amd64, when my system froze up. this has happened before in i386, so I tried amd64 to no avail. I rebooted (manual reset, completely frozen system), then ran into a "packages didn't properly install" page, which sent me to the apt front-end. I quit that, then it froze with a blank screen again. Rebooted yet another time, then was greeted by the following message right after the "package installation errors" page came up:
Code:

<0> Kernel Panic - not syncing: Aiee, killing interrupt handler.
My specs are:

K8T800 motherboard
AMD 64 2800+
1GB DDR RAM
Radeon 9200 Sapphire

If there's any other information you guys need regarding my specs I'll try to get that for you..

When I get an error, I generally start by Googling it:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

That said, it sounds as if you might have some disk integrity issues. Either the ISO image got corrupted during the download, or you may have burnt the CD at too fast a speed. Do you know how to do checksums?

Yes, I do know how to do checksums. I didn't even consider that, let me check the image.

Ok, the image is fine, and I've never had issued with the burning software/speed in the past (burned many many cds....no problems).

I'm using reiserfs, in that makes any difference? After googling around a bit (I always google for my problems, but none of the problems the people on google posted seemed to relate) I'm going to try noacpi acpi=no on the kernel.

Ok, so I went ahead and re-installed the system. But this time I used ext3. No success. My partitioning format is/was:

100mb ext3 mounted on /boot
1.5gb swap
20gb ext3 mounted on /

The installation went perfectly, but when I rebooted, the system froze on the xfont-scalable package. I'm still very confused..
