Gnome has a gui daemon for that un the gnome menue > system tools
you can use the internet configuration wizard or network device control it helps if /dev/modem is pointing to your modem |
I have pointing my modem to /dev/modem then what next?
|
er - hopefully you pointed /dev/modem to your modem...
Anyhoo - like I said - look for the gui is probably your best bet: look in the gnome menue for something that sounds like "system tools" and look in there. There is usually something called "network configuration" or "internet configuration" or similar. |
try running pppconfig in a terminal worked for me i could never get my modem set up with wvdial
|
hemm I'll try that :) thanx

how to connect to the internet? |
pon and poff
|
Where I can find pon and poff?
or I must type it on konsole Or on run command? sorry... I really dont know :( |
u can use the modem lights gnome applet if u want. But you just have to type them in the terminal, sorry i was a bit unclear. But if you use modem lights you have to edit your pppconfig profile a bit, so start up pppconfig again then change connection i do believe then advanced options or something like that haha has been a long time since i did this then go down to user add and delete the 2 dots you see and add your user name then go to previous menu and finished up by saving it over your old one. :D either way is good, sorry if the walk through is rubbish i'm thinking off the top of my head.

thankyou for the walkthtrough becoz I'm a noob for ubuntu so your help is very very usefull for me :)
so thanx... I'll try to do that--->modem lights gnome applet hope I can do it :D |

Let's see if I can understand this... You have configured the modem and you can dial an isp, log on and so forth, but after a few minutes nothing happens? That right? Does the system seem to "hang" - or do you unexpectedly log off - or what exactly? (I suspect that data flow goes to nill even though a connection is established.) I usually associate this problem with internal Winmodems! Probably best to show us what your modem configuration looks like... |
yup...after a few minute my connection off...
how to configure internet connection with ubuntu? so I can connect to the internet just like on my suse thankyou :) |
For Ubunto - there are a number of ways...
in GUI try: computer > system configuration > network and click "add" to add a ppp0 interface (you may need to remove your existing attempts first) in terminal try: man pppconfig for details But since you have had a connection (if only a short one) it means that you have configured your modem ... so show us your configuration and we may be able to help more specifically. |
