change screen resolution at login prompt


hi I am using ubuntu 8.04.
At login prompt my screen resolution is 1024x768 which makes letters look so small how can I change it 800x600.In my user account I have set it to 800x600 using system>preferences>screen resolution.

Beside that I am wondering what the use is of double post , what say you're config file about the resolution.

Sorry actually I wanted to edit title of my post(as you must have seen one is mistitled 'sreen' instead of screen) & somehow erroneous one also got submitted.
Can you tell me where config file is present?
