Question Cant see partitions during installation (5.10/64bits/Sata)

Hi there.

When I try to install Ubuntu 5.10 64bits, everything goes fine until I get to the partitioning screen. It only gives me the chance to do the partitioning manually, and after that, It shows this menu:

Configure software RAID
Configure the Logical Volume Manager
Guided partitioning
Help on Partitioning

Undo changes to partitions
Finish partitioning an write changes to disk

It never gives me the chance to choose the root partition, which I need to continue with the installarion...

The computer has a SIS 5513 Controller, a Seagate 200GB Sata Hard Disk, an Athlon XP 3200+ 64 bits, 512RAM.

Any Help?

if its a brand new drive you may not have any partitians.

use a knoppix disk to run cfdisk.

good luck.

Hi halvy...

The Disk is not new, I was using it on another "server" with Slackware (where the only problem was lilo). And the Disk is still working (its part of my new workstation ).

Ubuntu 5.04 said that there was no partitionable media (or something like that) with an ugly red screen.
Ubuntu 5.10 said that there was a disk... but it cant read the existing partitions nor use its partition software to do something with them.

Trying knopix is kinda useless, since my client wanted ubuntu... but thanks for your comment, Ill try it again later ^^

The computer is working now with an IDE Hard Disk and ubuntu 5.10 32bits, with that chipset.

There is a lot of messages about this issue, ubuntu is not the only distro with problems using SATA, especially with the SIS 5513

Thanks for your answer

Kenrro.

ok thanks for the update.

i did not mean to use the knoppix disk indefinitely.

i only meant to use it as a tool, in order to take a look at your partitians... and maybe fix them so ubunto would install.

i was thinking that because it appeared that ubuntos utility was not capable of dechipering your harddisk correctly..

anyway good luck once again
