Cant get Resolution higher than 1024x768 with NVIDIA driver

Hi everyone

I really need help with this one. I cant get moniotor resolutions higher than
1024x768 when using the NVIDIA driver. When I use the xorg/xfree86 native
drivers I can get the desired resolutions.

i used dpkg-reconfigurer xserver-xorg to configure my monitor

then when I used

dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-glx

or

changed Driver "nv " ---> Driver "nvidia"

it reverts to resolutions 1024x768 and lower

What the heck is going on ?!?!?!?!?!

If it works using the native drivers then whats the problem. Use those...your eye's wont know the diff.

Having to change my Xconfig file each time I want to use blender or play
a game when taking a break, is the difference. Also I thought that nvidia drivers
would be better overall for 2d acceleration as well.

So is this a known limitation or is there a way around this?

I'm having the same problem, with a Geforce FX 5500, 128 MB video RAM. It's not a limitation on neither the card nor the monitor, as I'm able to get this very same monitor/video card combination to run at 2048x1536 on Windows XP. My monitor is a Philips 107T (analog CRT, HSync: 30-71 kHz, VSync: 50-160 Hz, nominal max resolution 1280x1024 @ 68 Hz). I do want the desktop at 1024x768, however... but I want to be able to use higher resolutions for gaming as I do on Windows XP. I have modes up to 1280x1024 on the appropriate places in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Lower resolutions are okay, I'm able to go as low as 256x240 without a problem.
