cant find 3ddesktop!
I installed 3ddesktop from 'Synaptic' and it shows that it is indeed installed.
The 3ddesktop folder is in /etc.
Inside that folder is a 3ddesktop.conf text file.
the program is not showing up anywhere in the menu.
Any ideas?

Start it from the command line: 3ddesk (+ options). Not every package comes with a menu item.

I got it, THANKS 'Meng'!
just typed '3ddesk' instead of '3ddesktop' in terminal!
Really dont know how to use it! kinda wondering what it's good for and how to operate it.
I thought that it would show my ubuntu desktop as well as my windoze!
Oh well...
I'll go and find a tutorial!
Thanks again!

I found the site that I linked to be quite helpful. That was 5 minutes before I decided I didn't really like 3ddesktop that much anyway, and uninstalled it.

Well - you can configure desktop shortcuts to be associated with whatever command you want (e.g. ctrl-alt-rt arrow associated with 3ddesk --goright, or whatever the syntax is). My issue is that it doesn't really look as cool as it should - the virtual/rendered workspace's text is bolder than the real workspace, and the window order is inconsistent.

True...
The text is the first thing that I noticed!
But, if just switching between desktops is what it offers, I can do that just by clicking on a desktop on the panel!
And Much faster!

I agree with you (which is why I uninstalled it). I guess it would be useful to make your Windows friends drool over, and remind them that Vista is still a long time away ...

Problem for me with regards to 3ddesktop is that it uses an immense amount of cpu. Usually my installation, using fluxbox, my Xorg is using at most 1 % cpu. When the 3ddesktop daemon is running, it is consistently using 33 % - I like the effect, especially after seeing what a friend can do with his OS X (yay! - something flashy for those without the cash for apple products!), but couldn't accept the high cpu usage. If anyone know of something similar, please post
