Cannot set time/date to other time zone than UTC (Kubuntu)
My install of Kubuntu seems to have some sort of bizarre UTC fetish...
It will automatically sync to UTC on startup. I went to the Unofficial Ubuntu Startup Guide and followed the instructions on how to change a line in the /etc/default/rcS config file from "UTC=yes" to "UTC=no". The default setting was already "UTC=no". The next step instructs you to change the time zone from UTC to the correct time via the Settings menu in KDE. When I attempt this and try to apply the changes, it goes right back to UTC from central time. I've tried setting it manually, and I've tried different time servers with no success. I've tried to restart the clock script (hwclock.sh) and this does not seem to help.
I've searched this problem on Google, and the articles I find point back to this fix that does not seem to work for whatever reason. Is there anything else I can try? If I can't beat Kubuntu into submission, is there a way I can disable the time-server syncing process and have it sync from the system clock instead?
