Cannot play mp4 videos after Ubuntu 11.10

I used to be able to play mp4 videos on Ubuntu 64-bits 11.04 (e.g. http://video.ted.com/talk/podcast/20...nick_2011X.mp4), but after installing 11.10, when I try to open a video such as this one, Ubuntu tells me I need the codec "Desmultiplexador Quicktime", which it can't find and so I can no longer play mp4 files like this one.

Can you help?

I had already tried

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

and rebooted, but the problem persisted. Should I try another command?

I got the exact same issue after upgrading. Had to look for a long time before figuring what happened. The solution is in the comments in this post: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/24381 .

It involves deleting $HOME/.gstreamer-0.10/registry*.bin (user files, safely deleted) which will be regenerated.
Hopefully, you'll get MP4/Quicktime support back in GStreamer apps (Totem/Miro...). It worked for me.

Thanks for the tip, WooK82! It did made the mp4 videos such as the one I mentioned now play, but there is a catch - there are no controls such as pause and the time bar. Do you know anything about this?
